A good fit, in
both directions
Research on therapeutic outcomes shows fit matters more than modality. I take that seriously – which is why I’m honest about both directions: who this work tends to suit, and who it doesn’t.

Much of my
Work sits in the
grey zone
People often come because something feels unresolved, heavy, or out of alignment, even if it’s hard to name exactly why. The list below isn’t exhaustive. If something is on your mind and you’re unsure whether I work with that area, we can chat it through.
My practice
is intentionally
focused
If I’m not the right fit, I’ll help you think about next steps.
There are some client groups and contexts I don’t work with.
- Children or adolescents
- Couples or families seeking relationship therapy
- Court-ordered, forensic, or medico-legal assessments
- Reports for legal proceedings, compensation claims, or disputes
- Assessments or treatment required as part of employment, insurance, or legal processes
- Primary substance dependence where specialist services are required
- Acute crisis situations where immediate or intensive support is needed
- Clients through TAC, Victims of Crime, NDIS, Workcover or other third parties
- Clients seeking rebated sessions via the Medicare Better Access Scheme
The fit check
- Are willing to give this the time and space it needs
- Are open to therapy that adapts over time
- Want a thinking partner, not only a sounding board
- Value being met with care and warmth, but also rigour
- Appreciate having your assumptions gently – or robustly – questioned
- Are comfortable working with someone who names patterns clearly
- Want therapy that engages your mind as well as your emotional world
- Are interested in understanding how you think and decide, not just what you feel
- Just happen to click with me
- Are looking for immediate solutions or motivational coaching
- Prefer prescriptive advice over collaborative exploration
- Want therapy to stay light or unchallenging
- Are seeking crisis or emergency support
- Are seeking a formal diagnosis in line with the DSM-V
- Are looking for support in a particular area outside my training and scope
- Need to carefully consider cost – I offer a private service not rebated by Medicare
- Just really don’t have the bandwidth right now
- Just happen to not click with me

Timing matters too
Therapy is often most useful when there’s a bit of space around it – not squeezed between meetings, not another item on the to-do list.
Therapy tends to land best when:
- you can attend sessions without rushing in or out of meetings
- you’re able to join from a private, quiet space
- there’s some mental space to reflect, rather than squeezing it into a busy day
- you’re open to engaging with what comes up between sessions
- it isn’t another task to “get through”, but a place to pause and think
If now doesn’t feel right, that’s okay. Part of our first call can be about whether it’s the right support now, or might be better revisited later.
